Tatcha The Water Cream vs Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream
First and foremost, it's worth establishing what Tatcha themselves have to say regarding the differences between the two. The Water Cream has a "lightweight texture" and is intended for oilier skin types; it is clarifying, hydrating, and pore-refining. The Dewy Skin Cream, on the other hand, has a "rich texture" and is intended for combination/dry skin; it is deeply moisturizing, hydrating and comforting.
Sure enough, diving into their ingredients lists we find plenty of evidence to support these claims.
The Water Cream contains Japanese Wild Rose (which diminishes the appearance of pores), Japanese Leopard Lily (which minimizes excess oil production), and Hadasei-3 Complex (which reveals soft, healthy-looking skin thanks to its detoxifying and nourishing qualities). It is also completely oil-free and non-comedogenic making it all the more ideal for oily skin types.
The Dewy Skin Cream contains Japanese Purple Rice (which helps restore skin and protect against stress and pollution), Okinawa Algae Blend (which helps replenish ceramides to ensure an optimum skin barrier, aiding in the reduction of future moisture loss), Hyaluronic Acid (which captures water to help restore skin's natural moisture reservoir), and Botanical Extracts (which nourish and moisturize, imparting a radiant, dewy glow). Evidently it is *perfect* for those among us with moisture-starved (drier) skin.
Results-wise, they are both equally impressive in their own domains.
A 4-week clinical study found that of ~50 participants using The Water Cream, 95% agreed that their skin looked brighter and more moisturized, 90% agreed that their skin felt balanced and not oily, 85% agreed that the clarity of their skin improved and pores appeared smaller, and ~100% found that their skin looked and felt smoother and softer.
An equivalent study for The Dewy Skin Cream found that after just *one* use (after 8 hours), 100% showed an immediate improvement in plumpness, softness, and suppleness, and 100% demonstrated an improvement in radiance and moisture retention.
Their impeccable online reviews certainly seem to corroborate the findings from these studies, too!
In practice, and when we tried them for ourselves, both particularly stood out to us in the 'radiance' department relative to other moisturizers we've tried. This probably shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise to us, though, with both containing 23-karat Gold and Mica for that coveted subtle, shimmery glow. Overall, we honestly have nothing but great things to say, and certainly no unpleasantries to report.
Synopsis: if you're looking for a daily moisturizer for dry/combination skin, The Dewy Skin Cream is definitely the one for you.
If you're looking for a daily moisturizer for oily/combination skin then The Water Cream will be far better suited.
