Coola vs Supergoop Sunscreen
If there is one skincare product that you must have all year round—especially in the summer—it’s sunscreen. SPF should be a part of your everyday skincare routine to protect the sensitive skin of your face from harmful UV rays.
COOLA offers a host of incredibly popular sunscreens, however, our pick of the bunch is the best-selling COOLA Classic Face Sunscreen, as it is by far their most popular.
Arguably just as popular is the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen, which we will be comparing today. Of course, Supergoop also boast a wide variety of sunscreens - to see the rest of our top picks from Supergoop (and Coola) scroll to the best-sellers section.
First and foremost, the similarities:
- They both offer clinically proven broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection.
- They both offer water & sweat resistance.
- They both offer a lightweight, non-greasy feel.
- They can both be worn under makeup.
- They are both chemical sunscreens.
- They are both facial sunscreens.
- They are both free from oxybenzone and octinoxate.
Expanding on the point regarding both offering broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, both sunscreens actually contain the exact same active ingredients for sun protection, varying only slightly in concentration. To be specific, they contain: Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octisalate, and Octocrylene.
Inspection of the inactive ingredients lists reveals that both sunscreens are also packed with skin-nourishing botanical extracts. The COOLA Classic Face Sunscreen contains an antioxidant-rich "Plant Protection Complex" consisting of Rapeseed, Safflower, Meadowfoam, Buriti, and Raspberry Seed Oil—all of which promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin, and are suitable for all skin types.
The Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen is also targeted towards all skin types. Containing Shea Butter and Jojoba Esters, it offers intense moisturizing benefits, and with Frankincense and Meadowfoam Estolide it offers antioxidant protection as well as soothing and hydrating benefits.
Truth be told, the differences are incredibly marginal. For instance, the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen provides SPF 40, whereas the COOLA Classic Face Sunscreen provides SPF 50; this represents only a 0.5% difference in sun protection (97.5% vs 98%). The Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen does also contain Vitamin E, though, which provides extra protection against acute UVB damage, and protects against cell mutation caused by sun exposure, perhaps somewhat making up for that 0.5% difference.
With both boasting incredibly similar formulas and skin benefits, clocking in at around the same price per fluid ounce, and with it being a genuine struggle to find any real negative feedback about them anywhere online, it is nigh-on impossible to separate the two by any meaningful metric.
Anecdotally speaking, though, we prefer the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen for its texture and quality as a makeup primer with high SPF, whereas we prefer the COOLA Classic Face Sunscreen for its skincare benefits and its organic formula.
